Mark Hichens

Microbiologist - CBiol, MRSB, MSc.
As a Chartered Biologist (Microbiology) Graduate of the Institute of Biology (Microbiology), Master of Science in Applied Microbiology and member of the Hospital Infection Society, Mark began his career as a medical microbiologist in the Department of Microbiology, University College Hospital London.

During this time, he undertook diagnostic microbiological examinations, has undertaken research and published in peer reviewed journals.

Responsible for operation of accredited microbiological laboratories, he has specialised in the microbiology of pathogenic water and air borne organisms, hospital acquired infections and infection control, commercial, pharmaceutical, healthcare and food microbiology.

Mark provides expert analysis and consultancy across Ireland in healthcare microbiology, specifically sterile service and endoscopy departments, dialysis units, acute units and patient wards. Mark has provided microbiological advice in the development and publication of national microbiological guidance and standards that include the recent series of Standards and Recommended Practices for Endoscope Decontamination Facilities published by the Health and Safety Executive.
